Lamar Valley Griz

Lamar Valley Griz

This was my second grizzly bear in the park. In both cases they were very far away. This photo is a bit grainy because I took it with my most powerful telephoto lens from a very great distance. There's no way I would think of creeping up on a sleeping griz.

This is a gem...

of a photo. I was about to ask how far you were from this guy. It seems that you were close enough to realize that there was a bear there, especially the fact that he blends in with the dirt very well.
Pretty amazing!

Re: This is a gem...

I was VERY far away. I used my best telephoto lens. He was on the other side of the river. I only saw him because another hiker pointed him out. None of us got one step closer. He was completely, totally asleep. I'm talking utterly unconscious. Completely at peace in his world.

There were some guys fly fishing maybe one hundred yards both upstream and downstream from him, but I think both were aware of his presence.
