Layton Kor starting the first pitch of the Painted Arete

Layton Kor starting the first pitch on the first ascent of the Painted Arete, June 1962. I know this is another "butt shot" ... but I'm posting it for it's historic value. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado.

Thanks Jim

I love your “historic” shots. They kind of make me think that I’m paging through my old copy of Climb!

Re: Thanks Jim

You're welcome, I'm glad you like them. They bring back some nice memories for me, too. Wish I could still climb like I did in those days.
Peace, Jim

actually

I gotta say, that's a damn good "butt shot"! The angle of being off to the side a little bit, and the thematic vertical lines (the cliffs, Layton's angular body, the rope) makes a great symmetry. I don't think I've seen a better one.

And...wow...you climbed with Layton Kor! :-D

Re: actually

Thanks, glad you like the picture. Layton was a great climbing partner, even if I did have a difficult time following him, sometimes.
Peace, Jim

Re: Layton Kor

Thanks ... I'm not sure the picture is that good, but your assessment of Layton is right on.
Peace, Jim
