Leontopodium alpinum - Pala del Belia (Dolomites)

Leontopodium alpinum or Stella Alpina or Edelweiss – Picked up without pity, about 20 years ago this beautiful alpine flower became a rarity; as a matter of fact the Italian botanist Pignatti declared it as a species on the way of extinction. Because of an increasing environmental sensitiveness the Queen of the Alps now is coming back to spread on the highest pastures and even near the paths.

I had no idea..

..that this iconic plant had become so endangered. Without doubt, us humans are the worst pest species on the planet.

Re: I had no idea..

I agree, often we are! What a non-sense to pull up this wonderful plant to put it amongst the pages of a book...
Thanks and cheers.
