Looking down Sheep Creek into the heart of Hells Canyon. Note the dark horizontal bands on the opposite wall at the left side of the photo. These are layers of lava deposited in suceesive flows from the Grande Ronde events about 18 million years ago. Idaho, Oregon and Washington are visible in this view. July 2005
