Excellent photo!We have a beautiful Peak called Monte Cristo in Washington also. This one in Utah is incredible.

Another technical route?You know, Joe, when we were climbing up the last part of the ridge, I kept eyeing the south face of Monte Cristo - do you suppose there might be any good technical routes up the thing? I wonder what they would be rated?
I also noticed a few possibilities of some multipitch trad routes coming out of Lake Blanche.

Re: Another technical route?One time I saw an entry in the summit register, which mentioned ascending via the south ridge of "Monte Cristo". I know there's some controversy over the names of Monte Cristo / Superior, and some people use the names interchangeably, so I just assumed they meant the south ridge of Superior. I guess its possible they actually did mean a direct ascent of M.C. It looks pretty steep though; I'd guess at least 5.8 or better, but really hard to tell from that distance. Why don't you give it a try and let us know

Re: Another technical route?Hmm, I'd still think that those climbers would be referring to the S Ridge of Superior. The south side of Monte Cristo looks more like a face than a ridge to me . . .

I didn't notice until just nowthe climber's tracks ascending from the Monte Cristo Gulley to the summit
