Weathered moose skull found near Pilgrim Hot Springs, located 60 miles north
of Nome, Alaska and 80 miles south of the Arctic Circle.
First thinking the moose had over-played in the naturally-occurring springs after drinking too much wine, a local caretaker pointed out how it had locked its antlers within the narrow opening of a fence surrounding the property of a former (long - since - abandoned) orphanage.
Over the years, geothermal activity on the north slope of the Kigluaik Mountains has melted the permafrost here, creating a sanctuary for the lucky (and not-so-lucky) on a road seldom traveled ... and that's NO Bullwinkle !
