Merritt Peak - Climbing with the Goats

In January of 2010 I had ACL reconstructive surgery. My goals for the summer were to get back into the Sawtooths and do some mild hiking.

After five months of rehab, and month of hiking around the bench lakes I thought I might give Merritt Peak a go. After all, I stare at this mountain every weekend from my in-laws deck and it was just beckoning me. I invited my father in law to hike up to goat lake with me, where he would spend the day fishing, and I would continue on to the summit.

So below is a link to a video I made that details the climb that day. Little did I know that I would be blessed by the most inquisitive mountain goat I have ever seen. He literally guided me up the south ridge of Merritt Peak as if to show me all the best views the mountain had to offer. It was a magical experience.

Very Nice

Great movie-well done. Is that your music from your Mood collection? very cool to see the goat. It was fun to see my old Nalgene up there still with duct tape and the green electrical tape. Good stuff- great scramble, eh?

And what a lovely story about that mountain goat - it looks so sweet on the film! - that faithfully followed you all the way to the top!
