Overview
Mont Coudon is located near
Toulon in the so-called French Riviera.
It offers a great view over the
mediterranean see, and also provides excellent cliffs for beginners to intermediate climbers.
The advantage of this area is that you can climb during the winter months !
Note that the
trail GR51 goes across Mont Coudon. Therefore it could be part of a hike in the area (see map below).
Getting There
From Toulon, take highway A57 up to La Valette du Var.
Then catch road D46 for a few kilometers until you see the road D446 on your right.
Turn there and drive up to the last parking area on the road that leads to the top.
The cliffs are located 50 meters below.
You can reach them by descending a steep (but easy) path that leads to the bottom of the routes.
Red Tape
In July and August, for fire risks the area is closed to cars, climbers and hikers. It can be really dangerous if a fire starts, as people would be trapped on the hill.
Anyway the summer months can be really roasting, so you'd rather go the see !
Camping
The closest camp ground would be the one located in the nearby town.
It is about 20-25 minutes away from the cliffs.
