Overview

This not very famous mountain, makes itself a corner beetween Como lakes and Valtellina.

It's a pyramid shaped mountain, the higest in the Valsassina area, quite easy to climb i summertime.

I have climbed it, in the last january after tree attempts.
The very strong wind, the long way to reach it and the deep snow, make this mountain an hard challenge in winter.

Getting There

This mountain is between Valsassina and Valtellina. Both valleys can be reached by cars and buses.
If you came by car, take the motorway Milano-Sondrio and get out to Bellano gate.

Follow the indication for Dervio, Introzzo, Tremenico and than a yellow
signal indicates the road going to Refuge Roccoli dei Lorla.

You can also reach the begin of this road if you came from Valsassina.
This paved road permit to gain hundreds meters.
All the approach from the north side (Valtellina), are very long.

When To Climb

Most of the people use to attempt the summit in summer or autumn season.
All mountains in this area are very turistic and crowed in summer.
So climb them in winter or anyway in snow/ice condition can give big satisfactions.

There are no other mountains to cover the north-west side of this pyramid.
So winds and storms are very strong. Someone had lost the life in the past on this mountain! Just remind it.

The route

I just want to explain the climb in snow/ice condition because it was
what I've done and because it's the best way to appreciate this mountain.

There are basically tree ridges. The west, the east and the south. I've done the west and that's the most popular. The way start from ref.Roccoli dei Lorla (1460 slm).

There's not a real path in winter, but you need just to follow the ridge towards the top.
There is a key passage beetwen the rocks, and make sure to find out it almost in the middle of the way. So try to walk on hard snow with crampons.

The snow on the ridge should be harder than the rest, but pay attention in stong wind. The view from the top is just amazing.
The distance from the base and the top is about 1200 m.

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
