Re: I can

Hi Einar! Have you ever been to Tatras?

I remember you mentioned in one comment to my photo that your father was climbing there before 2nd World War, maybe you have any historical photos from that time?

All the best

Re: I can

Hi Tomek,
No, I have never been to the Tatras, though I would like to go there. Do people understand English or German there?

Yes, my father went to the Tatras in 1935 and climbed a few peaks there (mostly by normal routes I think). However, the photos in his diary are 6x9 cm B/W contact copies, like people mostly got those days. I don't think many of them would look very good scanned, but I might try it sometime and post them here. There is one quite nice photo of the three of them (he had a friend and his wife with him besides my mother) crossing a rather steep snowfield on the way to the Tery hut, and a view or two from the summits that perhaps might be used!

Cheers,
Ejnar

Re: I can

So Einar you have them! I'm sure people would be delighted if you could post them here in some historical section, album or so...

p.s.
You must see Tatras, there is usually no problem with communication in English, both sides of the range are totally tourist area.

All the best

Tomek

Re: I can

Hi Ejnar, those photos from Tatras from 1930s will really be rewarded here. And if you come here and take perfect photos, we'll all be pleased that you promoted our beloved Tatras!
