Route Description

The Old Baldy Trail runs 10.8 miles roundtrip from Madera Canyon to the peak of Mount Wrightson. It is well maintained and an easy but steady climb. There are obvious signs all along the way. Most of the trail is shaded and offers a pleasant hike through oaks and pines.

The Old Baldy Trail forms a figure 8 with the longer but less steep Super Trail. The two trails meet first at Josephine Saddle (7,250 ft elevation), and then again at Baldy Saddle (8,800 ft elevation). Each section along Old Baldy is about 2.3 miles. There's a 1-mile jaunt from the Baldy Saddle to the summit of Wrightson.

Essential Gear

No gear required. This is an easy hike. In the spring and fall, make sure you have at least a jacket or windbreaker.
