The trekking route starts from village Oraio. Oraio village is located north of Xanthi city and about 30Km far from Xanthi. the biggest part of Koula mountain is in Thracian region. The reach Xanthi city from Thessaloniki is 220Km while is 740 Km far from Athens. There are is daily busses that runs between Xanthi city and Oraio village. Also it s possible to reach Oraio with Taxi.

Route Description

This is an very intresting trekking, without any techical difficulty, but with very good nature. Most of the trek is in the dee forest and over grasslands. Starting from Oraio we get ont he small road on the rigth hand. the route is signed by red signs by the Mountaineering Club of Xanthi. After 800m trek on the small durty road we follow th path which is going on the small rigde on the left. After about 1 hour we traverse Ticheros Lofos 1155m where there is a spring with drinkable water. Here we must tern on the left side of the main's ridge slopes crossing some rocky fields, we arrrive after an houre one the
big plateau at about 1500m. From plataeu we enter into the deep dark forest with old trees and we reach a plateau covered by bush where there are ruins from old Greek Army Guard-house at altitude 1575 m. Trekking 10 minutes on the slopes back of the ruins we reach the summit of Koula 1607 m.

Essential Gear

No special gear is neaded, but just good trekking boots.
