I use mine as a leader's pack while doing long alpine rock routes. The pack is simple in that it is a tube with two rows of daisy chains down the back. I've added shock cord between daisy chains which allows me to store crampons, jackets, helmet etc. Also, I've sewn on another tool loop to accommodate two ice tools.
I don't use a foam pad in the pack and just use my jacket to keep things off my back instead.
I also use this pack for long dayhikes/scrambles, train running and biking. As a small pack, you can't get much better for under $30. Images

It's also great for everything from short day hikes to packing a towel and water bottle to the gym. I've stuffed it into my luggage to use in case a hike presented itself while on vacation.
