Unique full -front loading panel allows access to all contents top to bottom. Two ice-axe loops, hydration-compatible with exit ports right and left. Two, large water bottle pockets. Top and side pockets. Multiple locations for extra straps. Excellent pack for photographers and climbers with easy front access to all equipment.

great pack
This pack is what I use to carry all of my climbing gear on a long approach. It has lots of room for things, and jackets. I have also used it for overnight backpacking.

Taxed, but true
Wouldn't have seen going the route of ski mountaineering with this pack, but the Lookout 40 handled my setup up to the saddle below Mount Baker via the Coleman / Demming route without issue. I love the size and functionality of this pack - all the right straps and pockets in all the right places. Had to cut and burn waist straps as they were far too long. Padding on shoulders seems ample still after many trips. I'm about 6'2" with wide shoulders and the pack fits me comfortably - I do get aggravated with the hose from camelbak slipping out of place regularly while hiking (have tried several different arrangements and always seems to come out)
