These trees in the crater dome gave a nice contrast to the relative bleakness of the volcanic rubble. Mono Lake in the distance. March 2008

There must be

enough H2O available to maintain these evergreens - probably the snowmelt. There also might be some underground aquafers???

I guess you're right. There were many more small plants all over the dome area. There was just this one grove of tall trees though.
