| pbogen | Route: Red Pine Lake ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 6, 2006 | |
| Absolutely gorgeous hike... One of the best I've done anywhere. Sunday morning so basically had the whole trail to ourselves on the way up (there were seven of us). This is a fun & varied trail. The knife edge traverse is simple if you stay on the little cottonwood side of the ridge for most of the way. Trail is steep in parts and it helped to bring a hiking pole for the way down. | ||

| 9/9/2001---My first 11'er in the Wasatch! 7/8/2003---Red Pine / Beatout 9/9/2006---Red Pine / Maybird Gulch descent Began at 330am. Made the summit under an almost full moon at 630am. Cold and windy. Just under the peak on the Dry Creek side, a pack of coyotes sang just as a red sun began peeking over the smoky horizon. | ||

| Beautiful hike: the wildflowers were more than satisfactory, and I had the mountain entirely to myself above the lake. I head coyotes on the way down. | ||

| mtn_pika | East Ridge via Red Pine Lake Trail ![]() Date Climbed: Jun 10, 2006 | |
| There was quite a bit of snow left in early June, which made for gorgeous views and a more difficult hike. Even on a Saturday afternoon, I had the mountain to myself after passing lower Red Pine lake. Ice ax came in very handy in ascending the ridgeline above upper Red Pine lake, crossing the short class 3 section, and glissading back down; crampons would also have been helpful. Also summited August, 2005 (same route) with Susan. Hoping to go back this winter and camp at Maybird gulch. | ||

| Left WP trailhead around 6am, climbed the Maybird headwall hitting the East ridge very close to the base of the summit cone. Snow on the headwall was perfect, it took all of about 10 minutes to plunge-step down. | ||

| Came up the red pine trail. Summited the ridge between red pine area and white pine. I could see 4 lakes. I then set off to Pfeifferhorn. I tried to walk along the ridge to the north, but I had to drop down a bit. On the way back I pulled out my rain fly and glisaded down back to the lake. | ||

| hiker100 | Pfeifferhorn - White Baldy ![]() Date Climbed: Jun 25, 2005 | |
| July 25, 2005 - Hiked up to the Pfeiff via red lake and had time before we said we'd be back..... White baldy looked sweet, so we backtracked down and across the ridge seperating AF and Red pine and ascended the west ridge up to white baldy. A few bouldering moves along the way, kept it interesting Came down the north ridge of white baldy.. EXPOSED. March 24th, 2006 from WP trailhead. Left at 1:45 a.m. and got up for sunrise. Skinned up, then skied down on good powder up top and crust at the bottom! June 25th, 2007 -- Hike up from WP Trailhead. Very little snow. | ||

| Well we went up to the highest peak I've been to so far 11,326 ft. It was a nice hike for the most part actually going up was easier then going down. We got to the peak pretty quick and sat around enjoying the view for a while. Then decided to try the "beatout" trail which goes up a couple more peaks and then we would hitch hike back. Anyway about a mile down the ridge a huge thunderstorm was imposing on our adventure. So we headed down a draw that we were not sure exactly where it led. We found a fox den that was providing cover from a large boulder. So we sat in there and waited out the storm, it was pretty cool. Lightening all around and a good amount of rain. When the ligtening got further away we headed out. Down the draw no trail what so ever just bushwacked it down over avalanche debris, and rainforest like foliage. Finally got to the road turns out we were 4-5 miles down the canyon from the car. So we stuck our thumbs out and nobody wanted to stop. Until some nice preppy in a in an Infinity drove by and then turned around. Gave me a ride since there car was full and I picked up my car and came back down to pick up Pat. It was a good adventure and a lot of nice scenery. We could have had better luck with the weather but he we made it to the summit and made it back so thats all that really matters. | ||

| First time to this summit, and it easily is my second favorite hike now. Didn't see many others. Trekking poles came in real handy on the way down the summits east ridge due to the very slippery dirt. Can't wait to get back up here again. | ||

| The final summit pyramid looks intimidating from a distance as does the ridge leading to it. Perfect weather on this day. A dozen people were at the summit. | ||

| Wow so much snow, the upper Red Pine Lakes where still frozen over. Snow must have been anywhere from 8-15 ft in depth. The wind was a huge factor, I have never been in such a strong constant wind hiking this trail before. Crampons and ice axe was extremely helpful getting up and over the ridge to the summit. Loads of fun!!! | ||
