Price to good to be true!?

by Drazhar » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:45 am

hi,

im wondering if anyone has any input on this jacket.. 188 bucks seems low for a 850 down jacket thats also water resistant.. i had a mountain hardware sub zero parker which was awesome but some how it got lost (prolly when i moved) and it was 300 bucks.

http://www.whittakermountaineering.com/ ... own-jacket

tell me what all you guys think, thnx.

Search around here, and at Cascade Climbers - the FA stuff seems well-liked, although I have no personal experience with it.

FYI, it's a joint venture between Eddie Bauer and Whittaker.

I have purchased one FA item, a lightweight jacket, and I love it. From what I have seen it is great quality stuff and Eddie Bauer/First Ascent has great customer service with a lifetime guarentee. If you get it and decide it isn't up to par you can return it, but it seems like a great deal to me. Wish I had the extra cash to pick one up.

I bought that jacket at that price. Great value. Some local stores here in Seattle area were selling it for $135 last week. Legit deal, legit site.

I bought the igniter down pants that go with this jacket. I love them. They are well made and fit very comfortably. Scott

Seems like they are doing brisk business, but I am not sure how much it is helping when they are slashing prices so much.

Oh well... it can't cost them too much to make since it is made in china.

Anyways... the peak xv has to be the best bargain of the year, if you are looking for an expedition down parka.

Anyone know what kind of construction is used for the Peak XV? Sewn-Through or Box? Seems like a decent deal.

Get it!

I have the First Ascent Igniter jacket and just love it. I like the fit, the hood, the zippers, the material (its light but very effective) and the warmth.
