California Wildfires

by mrchad9 » Wed Jul 07, 2010 6:39 pm

OK- made the subject a bit generic, but my question today...

I noticed (hard not to) controled burns going on in Yosemite on 120 north of Crane Flat, both Friday and Tuesday. Seems the NPS staff decided to do this beginning on a holiday weekend.

It was night both times for me so I couldn't tell if air quality was affected around Tioga. Anyone else know? Perhaps the fire was much to small, but I'll head somewhere else this weekend if not.

Prescribed burns in Yosemite are usually reported here:

Yosemite National Park Prescribed Burn Successful

Yosemite National Park fire managers are pleased to announce that the prescribed fire near
Crane Flat has been successfully completed. Fire officials ignited the prescribed fire on Tuesday, June 29 after extensive preparation, including roadside thinning of vegetation and the ignition of several burn piles.

The goal of the prescribed burn was to reduce fire fuels near the park boundary, the Rockefeller Grove of sugar pine trees, and structures located in the Crane Flat area. All goals for the fire have been successfully met. The objective burn area of 200 acres burned was accomplished.

So it looks like you will be in the clear.
