First Dump of 2010/11....

by The Chief » Sat Nov 20, 2010 5:09 pm

It is coming down good!

10" in less than 6 hours and this isn't the heavy storm yet.

MMSA is reporting 13+" at 9K.

At this rate we can count on at least 24" down here and 48"+ on the hill and above 9K.

Here is a real report from the mountain:

Today's Report

Updated 7am on 11/20/2010

It is most definitely winter here at Mammoth! 12 – 22 inches of fresh snow so far and the thought of powdery runs down the slopes couldn’t sound any better! The snow is coming down hard and the winter storm warning is in effect until 4pm tomorrow which means that we are getting a lot more snow and forecasters are sticking with their predictions of up to 3-5ft! Chains or 4wd are required when driving up to Main Lodge today, but if you don’t want to drive just hop on the free shuttle at The Village. The 7am temp at Main Lodge is 21 degrees with 13 mph winds, at the top it’s 14 degrees with 45 mph winds. Snow base depth is 16” -36” with powder and machine groomed conditions.

Lifts operating today are the Lower Panorama Gondola, Broadway Express, Facelift Express, Thunderbound Express and Discovery Chair. Lifts operate from 8:30am to 4pm, wind and weather permitting.

Electrons fizzed off.

The snow sensor does that periodically.

Lovin' how it cleared up this afternoon in B-town. No snow here yet, and the Whites look like the line is all the way up over 10K for a light dusting thus far. Might try to get up to Mammy manana is maybe do some snowshoeing, maybe skin out the SJ ridge if it clears in the pm like it's 'posed to.

Great pics, Chief! :D

Another 7" outside this morning with an additional 16" on the Hill.

Forecast calls for up to an additional 6" here and 12-18" on the Hill by this eve.

Another series of small impulses are forecasted through Weds morning with up to an additional 12" total for those shortwaves. Cold ass temps (0 in the eves and nothing more than 20 during the day) to follow all week long.

Great start for this winter season. If this is all a result of AGW, then I say ...

"Gentlemen, start your engines and keep em revving!"

Me and My Honey take turns clearing. Here she is hard at work just a couple of minutes ago...

I'm gearing up for more travel this winter, with non-zero emissions, forced by the local enviro club.

This whole AGW thieving concept is a complete shitfest of underground capitalism at it's worst.

Just read another bullshit study that decrees that AGW will cause "Colder than normal Winters in North America and possibly the entire Northern Hemisphere for the next decade or so."

WTF!
