Colorado Trail question

by csmcgranahan » Sat Mar 27, 2010 8:03 pm

I'm thinking about doing the first two or three sections of the Colorado Trial over Memorial Day weekend. It appears the first six miles or so is along a gravel road. Does anyone know if this section is closed to motor vehicles or can you have someone drop you off at the end of the first six miles?

My biggest question at this time is how to shuttle cars or deal with getting dropped off and picked up. I would be open to partners because a second car would make this easier.

I found out on Sunday that the road is open to vehicle traffic only for authorized service vehicles. Thinking about taking Friday off and making it a four day weekend.

I was on the Tramway section a few weeks ago with a fair amount of snow and there's been a LOT more since then. Waterton Canyon will go by very fast for you. I'd check on snow this coming weekend.

I can drive through Waterton Canyon... only because I have access but in all honesty its super quick to get through the first 7mi to the area able to be camped.. I'm actually concidering heading up tonight on my bike just to try out my new tent, but either way it's traveled often by Denver water to service strontia springs but its a great walk to catch the view given. If you get out early enough to avoid the soccer moms and catch the goats and big cats that live up there
