Chile-Bolivia-Peru May-June-July

by lyneux » Wed May 14, 2014 3:55 pm

My wife Susan and I are currently working our way north from Chile to Peru (flying back to the UK at the end of July).

It's a backpacking trip with a bit of mountaineering thrown in. We've got a rope, harnesses, axes and crampons with us as well as a minimal rack for safety on glaciated terrain.

We've attempted a couple of peaks so far on the trip (Cerro del Plomo 5424m near to Santiago and San Miguel de Palermo 6050m in the Nevado de Cachi range in Argentina) and managed to summit the latter (weather conditions were too bad on del Plomo in April).

Having now acclimatised fairly well (slept a few nights at 5200m), we are heading to the Atacama tomorrow (based in San Pedro) with a view to tackling a couple of volcanoes (Lascar and Pili) and have hired a 4WD for this purpose. After that we'll be heading to Bolivia for 2-3 weeks then on up to Peru in mid June hopefully.

We welcome the opportunity to meet up with like-minded, experienced individuals who enjoy self-supported trekking and/or independently tackling the odd high altitude peak (ideally Facile). Obviously this depends on itineraries/dates matching up.

If any of this sounds of interest to you then please get in touch via private message. Apologies for the loose itinerary for Bolivia and Peru at the moment but as mentioned the mountaineering/trekking is a side activity and we want to do plenty of sightseeing on our travels whilst keeping our options open!
