Skiing in Telluride Area Next Weekend?

by COTrekker02 » Sun May 23, 2010 12:07 am

Wondering if anybody has any beta on conditions at the ski resort. Would it be worth skinning/skiing from mountain village? Is there much cover left? How are the conditions off Palmyra? I know there would be tons of good bc skiing in the surrounding area, but we're more looking for something with quick access where we could be back in town in 4-5 hours.

Also, how high can one walk/drive up the road towards Imogene? Thanks in advance.

Call Telluride and find out if they are even ok with you hiking up/skiing there. The ski area is closed, but they may still have regulations about people going up there for liability reasons. You won't be skinning from Mtn Village, there is no snow there. Yes, Palmyra looks to be covered well, but again, call them and find out (at the very least so you don't piss them off and ruin chance of the rest of us being able to ski off season there). Not sure about Imogene. Snow line varies with aspect (and area) around here. Since that is a sun exposed area I would guess the snow line is somewhere around 10k-11K. We still have a deep snowpack above 11K.
