Pink Lady-Slipper

Pink Lady-Slipper milkvetch (Astragalus utahensis) is one the earliest flowers to grace the Wasatch Foothills. The picture has been taken on 4/22/08, with Triangle Peak / Wildcat Ridge in the background. The botanist who first discovered this Utah native creeper described it as the most beautiful of North American Astragalus species. The bright flowers are large, almost an inch in size; the pinnate leaves are white-tufted; and the pods are densely covered by long white silky hair.

Thanks, it's one of the most special early bloomers here and the flowers are out right now. Alas, the previous winter was kind of on a dry side and the bloom around here is modest. All our snow got diverted to Arizona I guess, and they have a crazy wildflower spring.
