Poppel-Iz and Paypudyna Ranges, Arctic Ural

View from the NE. The Western flank of Central Arctic Ural consists of a half-dozen of parallel and mostly rounded ranges, with a notable exception of rugged Pendirma-Pe Mountain, the area's highest at 1252 m. This area even used to have a wheeled jeep road, a very unusual thing in this country of tracked machines, which went between Ponpel-Iz and Paypudynas to the ghost mining town of Harbey. Eventually the Arctic permafrost did away with the bridges of this road. November 1987
