Protection

Sandstone is very soft, so no metal hardware is allowed. Climbers use loops with knots for protection. This particular knots are used as hexes, some smaller knots would be only a figure eight or just a simple overhang knot on loops of different thicknesses. They even use a small wooden pick to push it further inside the crack.
