Dan - this place caught my eye several months
ago here on SP. This is being referred to by
geologists as a KARST region. There's some
dolimite, but mostly limestone. Many
underground streams are cutting through the
limestone. There is a canyon in this area
that is second deepest in the world. Don't
know why the "stratified layers" are standing
on end - could be the result of tectonic
forces and faulting. Here's a nice LINK!
