Red Rock of Pine Island Ledge

The red rocks of Pine Island Ledge stand out amidst the green hues of late summer while on the West Rim Trail. While looking at these ledges on this trip in August 2008, I wondered if there would be a good view from atop the rocks. I found thereafter, that there is a hike described in Chuck Dillon's book Short Hikes in Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon that highlights many views from those rocks. In the following months, I would do that hike once on a beautiful fall day and once on a blistery cold winter day. A view from atop Pine Island Ledge can be seen here (August 15, 2008)
