Approach

Start at Rim Village.
See the Crater Lake Caldera main page for elevations (the elevation 8151 feet is for nearby Hillman Peak).

Route Description

Go northwest from the Rim Village, following the Circumnavigation route for about 3 miles. Ascend The Watchman from the south. Descend to the north. Go back to the Rim Village the way you came. Total distance: about 7 miles.

Essential Gear

Bring nordic skiis or snowshoes, a map, warm clothing, food, and water.

Temperatures from January to March average 19�F at night and 36�F during the day. Temperatures from July to September average 40�F at night and 70�F during the day.
