Self portrait on the "summit" of Gahwinden (2649m)

Although it's not really a summit, Gahwinden still has a name and a cross. It's a magnificent viewpoint on the western side of the Geigenkamm, with great views of the Pitztal below, of the mountains of the Kaunergrat on the other side of the valley, and towards the glaciated south western Ötztal area. Basically, Gahwinden is on a flat part on the Hohe Geige (3395m) west ridge. The Rüsselsheimer weg, a high alpine hiking trail stretching N-Z, crosses the ridge here. To the south, some 300m lower, lies the Rüsselsheimer Hütte, my goal for the day. To the north lies a scree filled bowl. Further west, the ridge gets steep again, and to the east is the interesting part of the Hohe Geige West Ridge route. Easy climbing up to grade I or II (UIAA) but mostly easier, and not really all that much exposed. 28 June 2012.
