Climbed at The Overlook the day before and thought that this would be a fun afternoon hike. Waayy hot!!! Left at 3 pm and reached the crest at 6 and then the summit an hour later. The hike on the summit trail was a blast. Stunning in beauty. The summit was easy to find with a GPS.

An embarassing first adventure in old boy scout equipment, late start, no gaiters, soaking feet in a cold shivering tent until thank God the sun finally came up.

Wow. Three's a charm! Ran up from Oak Grove...much more difficult than expected. Took a wrong turn and went to the top of the wrong mountain too far to the west. Descended and made my way up and up and found rock piles and a summit register...for EAST signal peak. Brutal. Headed West and eventually found a register that said SIGNAL PEAK. Signed it and headed down over a mile before finding my cousin who wanted to go to the top despite me bringing only a water bottle and 2 gels...I had been out since the first false summit. Went back up and found a DIFFERENT Summit register which also said Signal Peak. This one had a geocache and I am beyond grateful for the person that left a Clif Mojo bar! You know it's a rough day on the mountain when your descent takes as long as your ascent but that was just about the case today...running out of water and calories took its toll! That said, 3 summits over 10k feet and one twice all made for 4 summits over 10,000 feet and 5.5 hours of running, power hiking, and stumbling...

I had tried this hike once previously (I missed a turn in the dark and spent a couple hours going the wrong direction).

No such misfortune this time. Beautiful day, didn't see anyone above the trailhead.

Climbed from the Oak Grove trail. The switchbacks were steep, but Deer Valley and Further Water were a welcome reprieve. Well worth the hike to see the meadows. View from the summit was minimal except from the west end, were the summit register was. Although the actual summit was about 300 feet away

Approached from Pine Valley using the Forsyth trail. Blue skies, lots of snow, and really just an amazing day...other than the fact my partner got sick the night before and what was a planned 6 am start for the both of us turned into a 10:30 am start for just myself. No summit this day, made it to the junction with the summit trail around 9000 elevation before hitting my turn around time mandated by a waiting family in St. George. Will return to get this county highpoint in the Spring.

Spent the night in the campground. Got up broke camp and started on our way. We were trying to find some geocaches and ran into a fellow cacher mockba and he told us we were going the wrong way. We hiked with him for a min and then he was off like a bullet. The hike was allot more then we expected 2' of snow and waterlogged meadows. Made it to the peak and back. This was my first county high point and it now has me addicted to hiking peaks.

Started a few hours before sunrise to get back in time to grab my family out of a hotel with check-out time at noon (in St. George). Lots of snow on the upper mountian, probably 5 feet along the ridgetop...great snowshoing but a long way over to the true summit when you are in a hurry! Saw someone elses tracks up the mountain but they finished postholing before reaching the top. Brush first 2 miles is cut back...easy going. Before I learned about gaiters, and polypro, and mountain starts, there was the night I froze on Signal Peak and learned the hard way about the importance of the right gear.

Brent and I, in the heat of an unusually warm late fall day, reached the summit after bagging, most comically, peak 10,217' too. Having GPS waypoints was a huge help. All of the page comments concerning the unending switchbacks are on the money. It's nice to have this county highpoint checked off. Herrlich!

My wife, Melissa, and I completed our summer adventure of climbing all of Utah's County Highpoints. After climbing to the wrong summit, we eventually made our way to the actual summit!

The Oak Grove Trail is in bad shape. Save this one for the spring or summer when it's not so hot!

We originally attempted this peak in April and were turned back due to an exhorbitant amount of snow that didn't mesh well with our trail runners. We returned in July to experience totally different conditions. The temps were 100+ degrees and there wasn't a cloud in sight. We were extremely happy when we finally reached some tree cover on the upper slopes. A pretty cool little area!

Spent the night at the campground below and hit the hike at daybreak. It was a suprise when we hit the ridge and had like 2' of snow. But it sure kicked my but although the views were worth it

The forest had a nice, pimeval feel. Enjoyed also the alpine meadows, all the flora and insects along the way and great sunset. The photos are here: Signal Peak hike

The climb from Oak Grove was Hellacious! (is that a word)
Lots of snow once we crossed the ridge, and the meadows were waterlogged.
(gotta love spring hiking)
