I am planning a 2 week Uintas traverse this July and this TR gives me an idea how much snow is remaining compared to last year (where the snow never went away). Don't see Uintas TR's very much. Well done
Thanks and good luck on your trip! As to snow levels, it seems like we've been getting another storm every other day this April. As to Uinta TR's, almost everyone in Utah lives between Ogden and Provo and we are all spoiled by the mountains close by.
What type of ski/boot set up do you have? AT or Telemark? And what type of boots? I see that you had to do a lot of rock scrambling and I am curious to see what type of boot you had on to get through all of that? Do you think it would be advantageous to pack a pair of approach boots to help with the scrambling or is the weight/value ratio not enough?
I for sure don't use AT gear, but I wouldn't really call it telemark gear either. I use back country x-country touring gear. The skis I used for that trip are Atomic Selkirks with a sidecut of 78-60-70. If anyone else had been along I would have used Atomic Sierras with a sidecut of 69-56-63 as they are lighter and faster but not as good for doing a lot of trail breaking. Both pairs have fishscales in the middle and full metal edges. Although I have full length skins, for that trip I just used 50MM kicker skins. I have NNN-BC bindings and used Alpina BC 30 boots that are fairly lightweight and flexible. I wouldn't want to hike all day in them, but for relatively short distances (less than 4 miles or so) where I'm not going particularly fast, they are plenty comfortable and I find no need to bring another pair of boots.
Not so. It was a gopher snake.....a really big one. You are comparing apples to oranges. Anyway, looking at those pictures that you took of all those wind swept ridges, the snake is much more pleasant. Thats why you're crazy. It's a good crazy though.

Blows me away ...What I always find amazing is your "time management" skills.
When you can find the time to do what you want to do, well ...
that is heaven.
It's also been quite windy in Arizona, but it's dry as a bone and
no snow to deal with. Actually, I miss snow blowing in my face.
Awesome report, Zee !!!
