Snail-eating beetle

A colorful beetle found on the Chimney Tops trail. Presumably this one is either of the genus Scaphinotus or the genus Sphaeroderus, both of which are snail-eating beetles found in the Smokies. If you can identify further, I'd be grateful. March 2011.
