Yep, be careful! One of my hiking partners did encounter a rattlesnake near Manter Meadow when we hiked there in June 2005

I've encountered only one rattler in the Sierra in the last 15 years. I'm more fearful of mosquitoes...

In my formative years in the mostly northern Sierra I admit to seeing only two rattlers....the Silver Fork of the American River and the Bear River in Nevada Co.
