I made my first climb up Table Mountain in late July, 2004 with two friends from high school and a former government teacher of ours. Coach Cooley, our government teacher, had worked in the park at our age, and was the person who introduced me to what is now one of my favorite hikes to do every summer and the person who got me interested in working in the park. Next summer will be my third at Lake Lodge in Yellowstone National Park.

I climbed it again in early July, 2005 with another friend and Lake Lodge co-worker. Saw three moose on this trek. One bull, one female, and another younger bull. Also had a glider type aircraft fly probably no more than 30 feet above the summit while we were up there.

My third and most recent climb of Table Mountain was that same summer of 2005 but in late August. I took a Lake Lodge co-worker from England with me this time. This was her first climb of any mountain all summer long. We had camped the night before our climb at the Teton Canyon Campgrounds, which is a short walk from the trailhead. After spending all day on the trail, but mostly on the summit, we decided to camp again in the same place. After the climb down we also decided to reward ourselves with a drive-in movie just down the road in Drigg, Idaho. This was one of the best weekends all summer for either of us.

Plan on hiking Table Mountain solo on May 29th, 2006 as part of the long road trip from Atlanta back to Yellowstone National Park.

While a Boy Scout at Treasure Mountain Camp of the Tetons I hiked to Table Mountain summer of 1955 and again summer 1956. In '55 we went up the North Fork of Teton route and back down the steep ridge. In '56 we went up and back on the steep ridge route. Highlight of both hikes was having the scout leaders hold our legs while extending us over the enormous cliffs on the east side that drop into Cascade Canyon.
HIked up again summer 2003. Up the North Fork and down the ridge. Almost 50 years later and it's one of the best hikes of my life.

This was part of a training session for the Denali For Dreams Make A Wish project. We camped out in the snow a few miles up near a Boy Scout Camp on the Driggs side of the Tetons. The first day we all practiced crevasse rescue and glacier travel. The next day I wanted to head up Table Mountain, but no one else was willing to go with me, so I took off by myself. I didn't start until 5pm, but that made for a terrific sunset high up on Table Mountain, with spectacular views of the Grand and the Driggs valley. The climbing was on steep wooded terrain at first, then vast open areas with a short steep section at the summit. I returned to camp just after dark to find everyone had packed out.

Left the TH after 5pm on a Sunday night, summited at 8pm. Watched the red light bathe the summits. Descended with headlamp. Not a soul on the mountain (in August!).

This is one of my favorite mountains. It's a long day hike but worth it. Probably the best view of the Tetons from the west side. It seems to have gained popularity over the years as I saw from the number of people hiking up the trail.

As a camp counselor with the Boy Scouts out of Treasure Mtn Scout Camp.

These views rival the very best to be had in the continental US.

I summited this when I was about 10. Went with my dad and brothers. We went up the North Fork Teton Creek Approach and I think we came down the west face.

We bought a one way ride up Targhee ski hill and camped on the North Fork of Teton Creek. No one else was around, it snowed 8 inches overnight and we got great turns from the summit, all the way back to camp. The slog out was a bit tough.
