The eye of the dragon | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
A male sand lizard, Lacerta agilis, posing in front of my camera. This is one of the four or five common lizard species in Germany but you rarely see them this colourful. The liitle guy undoubtedly was on his way to a date with his favourite lady lizard when I trouped along and interrupted his romantic plans. No doubt he was extremely annoyed with me - just see the expression in his eye :-) April 8th 2007 Comments[ Post a Comment ] | | Gangolf Haub | Re: Greeeeeaaaaat! | |
Hasn't voted | Thanks, Paolo - at first I thought a kid had lost its toy dinosaur. But this dwarf dinosaur was real. Every now and then he dared to breathe and you could see his heartbeat. | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:12 am |
| luciano | Thanks! | |
Voted 10/10 | Hey Gandolf. Fantastic shot. But how you can determinate the sex? | | Posted Apr 11, 2007 1:04 pm |

Hasn't voted | The sex? It is a very complicated procedure. Luckily the guy didn't move as I performed it :-)
Actually I found this page on wikipedia.de where there are other shots of both male and female | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:14 am |

Hasn't voted | Yours might be a Podarcis muralis, a wall lizard | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:17 am |
| Turbo | Really cool | |
Voted 10/10 | Thats a very cool picture. It's nice to see pictures on SP that are different from the normal but still relevant to enjoying nature. | | Posted Apr 11, 2007 1:20 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks, yes every now and then I like to see something different than mountains, snow and ice. And tell you what - it's spring and these critters feel the call of nature and put on their most colourful clothes to impress their females.
Life is beautiful... | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:19 am |
| AviP | Nice shot. | | Hasn't voted | Excellent photography. As to how he determined it was a male, I think he might have been a bit voyeuristic. Just kidding! | | Posted Apr 11, 2007 1:28 pm |
 | | Gangolf Haub | Re: Nice shot. | |
Hasn't voted | This one didn't hide his gender in any way - the females are brown all over, the males have a green head and belly. And when they get in the mood - they get as brightly green as this one... | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:23 am |
| Herb | This guy... | |
Voted 10/10 | ...is pretty cool! He looks like if his tongue would come out any second. | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:21 am |
 | | Gangolf Haub | Re: This guy... | |
Hasn't voted | Are you sure? I think he presses his lips tightly together to show what he thinks of my intrusion | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:24 am |
 | | Herb | Maybe... | |
Voted 10/10 | ...it's just wishful thinking, because I would have been tempted to give the picture 11 points, if the tongue would show up in the lizard-typical style ;) | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:26 am |
| Eurocommiefriend | lovely creature | |
Voted 10/10 | Great shot, great caption!

Voted 10/10 | I know someone who would just go gah-gah over this shot ;) Yep, he looks annoyed alright. | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 11:59 am |

Hasn't voted | If we didn't have the image uploading issues right now I would have posted a real close-up shot, which I had missed to download from the camera. Eye of the dragon quality - you your lady might look out for that one as well ;-) | | Posted Apr 13, 2007 2:45 am |
| marauders | Nice macro! | |
Hasn't voted | Nice macro shot. Very sharp. What lens did you use? | | Posted Apr 12, 2007 7:55 pm |
 | | Gangolf Haub | Re: Nice macro! | |
Hasn't voted | It was'nt even a macro lense - which I had thought unnecessary for the tour. Instead I used my one-size-fit-all 18mm - 200mm zoom lense (Minolta) which only works that well when there is enough light. 6.3 at 200mm really is a bit low - but that day I was real lucky. | | Posted Apr 13, 2007 2:48 am |
