Tocllaraju high camp, with Urus in the background

Moraine camp was small and there were already a few tents. We planned to camp a few hundred meters higher anyway, but the fact that it didn't look really clean and that there was no running water didn't help to persuade us otherwise. We ended up camping on the next flat area above moraine camp, only a little bit higher, because my partner was struggling with the altitude. It was an exposed place, not too good in case of a big storm, but apart from that it was beautiful. Plenty of clean snow to melt, slightly closer to the summit than moraine camp and fantastic views. 29 June 2011.
