Tube Tent! Remember these?
Ever sleep in a tube tent?

Excuse the view but it's the only picture I have showing my backpacking group sleeping in tube tents which we sometimes did in good weather. We used clothespins to keep them from sliding around on the lines we used to run them on. Probably taken around 1966.

Oh you youngsters! Who knows what fad is here right now and will disappear tomorrow?

And thanks for looking at my antiques!

...I was only two years old back then...I don't remember if it was a tube tent my cousin and I used when we were both about twelve years of age or so, but I remember how thrilling it was for both of us kids putting up that tent in the forest above my aunt's and uncle's vacation home in the Swiss Alps and spending the night there...;-)

In 1966, I was 9 years young.

I remember seeing "The Adults" putting these things up and having lots of fun in them.

Us kids were forced to sleep beneath the
stars, especially on the warmer evenings.

I liked the stars. I often wished I could
be amongst them, opposed to having to spend
the evening with a bunch of rowdy and snoring

Colin Fletcher said they were just fine! Of course, he lived in California ... I don't think he'd have recommended my idea of mixing a tube tent, down sleeping bag, and eastern T-storms ...

Hot, short, but all we had at the time. We stayed dry. Man you take me back to times I hiked/hitchhiked around New England and met some terrific people. Fun stuff.
Thank you, Kathy

Ah ha, a plastic tube tent and a piece of twine was my first ultralight backpacking gear. They were functional and kept us dry but left a lot to be desired in rough weather. I remember trying not to touch the inside walls that were always dripping with water in the morning.

I almost forgot about those wet walls, inside and out! Had to avoid the walls also in the canvas tents in that era (maybe that's why they were so large and difficult to carry around. Thanks for jogging my memory!
