I guess I've got to magnify the pic to see your car.

Wow ...

Your car looks like a little biddy dot down there!

Incredible.

Classic

I work in Shiprock at the Hospital. I know about five people that have climbed the Shiprock. I'd love to give it a go. That is a great shot. Congratulations on putting your name in the book with many climbing greats.

Take this picture away

It's not allowed to climb Ship Rock. I understand you are proud, but consider the message this celebration of glory sends.

Re: Take this picture away

I'm new here and have no idea where this is. Why can't it be climbed?

Re: Take this picture away

The reason for my objection is that although this is a super cool mountain and climb, the tribe that owns the land considers it a sacred mountain and it's closed to climbing. Although I, as a climber, am sympathetic to "wanting to climb it anyway," I strongly disagree with crowing about the feat later with public photos. It just seems rude to me. Respect starts with each one of us and our choices.

Re: Take this picture away

excerpt from this document:

"Reports of the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department allowing rock climbing are false. Yet several websites have postings on how to evade Navajo Nation regulations and proceed with dangerous and illegal rock climbs in the park.
Even more serious than the possible physical harm illegal climbs could pose is the religious damage done to the Navajo people by these non-Navajo visitors. The Monuments are sacred to the Navajo people and any human interaction (by Navajo or non-Navajo) is strictly off limits. Please abide by the humble religious requests of the Navajo people and do not climb the Monuments."

...just to clarify, the above excerpt comes from the Monument Valley Tribal Park website.
