Mad Wolf from Cut Bank Ridge

Mad Wolf from Cut Bank Ridge

A mix of fording, bushwhacking, and navigating a maze of game trails is required to gain the crest of Cut Bank Ridge. The open meadows allow for a great view of the route up Mad Wolf Mountain. Note the large boulder field that litters the meadows far below the rightmost summit. Above the boulders a prominent scree field leads through the easiest break in the impressive folded band of Altyn limestone that wraps around the mountain's lower slopes. From there, it's simply an ascending traverse across mixed rock towards the summit, which is framed near the center of the photo. August 13, 2011
