A typical hut, this one at Pitsusjärvi, about 10km SSE from Halti. Photo taken in March 2003. It looks extremely cold! It is common that the temperatures during winter can drop to as low as -40 C. For the record, the coldest temperature ever recorded in Finland was at Kittilä on January 28, 1999: -51,5 C!!! (Photograph courtesy of Heikki Virtanen)

Re: Temperature: - 30 C?

It does look cold! In this region it can easily get as cold as -40 C during Dec-Feb. The national record for Finland is -51 from the town of Kittilä, just South (in 1992 I think)!
