Not too high, but very nice mountains…

Wielka Kopa...
Żywica...
Old sign of...
Increased radioactivity...

There was a good moment to have a summer hiking in these mountains with slopes overgrown by forests. In shadow of spruces, larches, pines and beeches I can get fresh cold. The mentioned trees are most common in these mountains. After heavy summer thunderstorms a lot of water was in streams. Some streams appeared difficult to cross them. Trails were eroded by previous strong rains. There was no problem for me to get water for preparation of meals. Large beautiful ferns and mushrooms, blooming Senecio fuchsii and Chamaenerion angustifolium, a lot of mosses and lichens on trees, rocks and decaying wood, sharp voices of woodpeckers, sun rays dancing between trunks and shrubs and blue sky covered by picturesque, distinctly outlined clouds created a specific, very nice summer mood. At that moment the mountains were very quiet of people. I met only seven tourists hiking too. On rocky summits of Mała Ostra (935 m asl) and on a boulder field (in Polish called “gołoborze”)nearby of the summit of Skalnik (945 m asl) I observed interesting air plays of bird couples: kestrels, ravens and buzzards. I hiked in the Rudawy Janowickie during the second week of August 2010. I started from Janowice Wielkie and next I trek through the village of Mniszków, a dolomite quarry in Rędziny, I visited old adits in Czarnów, then rocky summits of Mała Ostra and Skalnik, the Strużnica village, Starościńskie Skały, a climbing area in Góry Sokole, Trzcińsko and finally I hiked by a trail made of granite stones and metallurgical waste taken from old slag heaps in the Miedzianka village, and along Hutniczy Potok (Smelter Stream) I returned to Janowice Wielkie. Cold nights with stars on skye nearby streams and meadows were misty. In such a fog some flying animals, probably bats, were lost and they hit in walls of my tent. This trekking I documented by 250 pictures and I collected 2.5 kg pieces of rocks and minerals for my academic purposes (lectures and labs).

It will be continued.........
