A breezy rest in Pyrya-Yakha Valley, Arctic Ural

This is a straight, flat-bottom valley of a former glacier, now partly filled with an enormous Great Pike Lake. The hills around, though unconspicous by the Ural standarts, still rise more than two thousand feet above the valley bottom. A much taller massif of Oche-Nyrd looms on the far horizon. March 1989

Pack

My backpack is standing nearby, and I am sitting with Olya on hers. It's because there is a guitar in mine. That's right, full-size guitar completely fits inside.
