An alpine thistle
An alpine thistle
I've seen lots of intense purple thistles in various places in the European Alps. This one was in a small meadow close to Kops, at the northwestern tip of Kops Speicher, just below 2000m.
I'm not quite sure which exact species this is though, since there are several very similar looking ones. Two candidates in particular are Carduus defloratus and Cirsium helenioides.
