HP #?  Sucess!

Nice hike that reminded me a bit of the Arizona Trail.

Bring water  Sucess!

We were surprised by the amount of walking we had to do. Took us at least a couple hours. The first half of the trail gets pretty boring and some expecting a quick hike will be annoyed by the trail taking so long to gain elevation. It's a unique location - especially for Oklahoma!

Black Mesa  Sucess!

Hiked to the highpoint on a sunny and windy morning. Nice monument on the summit.

Great day  Sucess!

Had the trail, Mesa to myself. Saw a herd of Desert Bighorn. Not too bad for a class-1 trail.

Beautiful day in the panhandle  Sucess!

Picture perfect fall day. We only encountered one other group of two our entire time on the trail. #44 for me. #34 for Lillian. We loved staying at the Black Mesa B&B. Highly recommended!

Highpoint Plus Allosaurus Tracks  Sucess!

There were 6 groups on the trail ahead of us, and two more came while we were on the trail on Labor Day weekend. Beautiful weather and clear path, with handy benches at each mile. Take plenty of water. Took us longer than I expected at 4.5 hours, but we were in no hurry.

Discovered there were several Allosaurus tracks in a riverbed just 4/10 mile from trailhead. We drove over and saw them. Pretty amazing set of fossilized prints!

On the way back to Utah  Sucess!

My wife and I climbed to the top on the way back to Utah. Wonderful hike with gorgeous wildflowers aplenty. Saw many horned toads and iguanas. Neat monument on top!

HP # 28  Sucess!

Lucked out as far as the weather as all the spring storms passed through a few days before we got there. Absolutely stunning wildflowers and lush, green vegetation. Husband got attacked by a jumping cholla cactus but persevered and made the summit! Well-marked and easy trail with temps in the low 70's. Would not want to do this in July as it would be a scorcher, for sure.

Nice area most would not get to.  Sucess!

Got an early start for here - long drive in (We came in from Dalhart,TX), and had very cool temps with the trail to ourselves. One of those areas you'd never find without being from OK or a high pointer. 2 1/2 hours for us but we had an agenda, could have spent more time.

Hp 16  Sucess!

This was a very beautiful state park. It was over a year ago but I stayed with a nice couple at a bed and breakfast in the park. The hike itself was actually quite nice and not what I expected for Oklahoma, the marker on top was really cool.

HP #7  Sucess!

I started the hike around 1 p.m. It was very hot. It took me about 4 hours round trip. There were several other people on the trail, but I was at the summit alone for the 15 minutes I was up there. Very beautiful area.

Foggy, rainy hike  Sucess!

There certainly wasn't much to see as the fog was very thick. But, 65 degrees in mid July beats hiking in 95 degree heat. My 11th highpoint.

with crutches and an ankle compression boot  Sucess!

My wife joined me for this "hobble-fest" and appreciated the fact that I didn't rush her for once. It took me 5.25 hours car to car. We enjoyed and highly recommend the Black Mesa Bed and Breakfast. The owners were very friendly and hospitable.

Running from Rain  Sucess!

Hiked in on a hot summer afternoon. Spent some time on top and on the way back out broke into a jog as summer thunder clouds came out of nowhere! [with Pocket Rocks]

Me and my girls  Sucess!

Savy said it was hard but well worth it!

I say longer hike to the mesa than I expected then short trip but we enjoyed it and was glad to get on top for a bit of a breeze!

at night  Sucess!

Started @ 1 AM. Windy, cloudless, half waning moon. Beautiful scenery in the moonlight. So much flox! Eighty five minute walk up, same time back down. Back in my car @ 4 AM.

Fun  Sucess!

Hiked this one day after Arkansas' Mt. Magazine. Flew a Cessna 170B into Clayton, NM then drove to Kenton. Lucked out by finding a clean, wonderful bed and breakfast about four miles from the trailhead (Black Mesa Bed and Breakfast). I highly recommend the B&B. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. The hike was pretty easy. The hardest part was the heat on the way back down. The mileage went by relatively quickly as it is predominantly flat. Would recommend!

Mesa Views  Sucess!

It was a scorching hot walk through Mesa country on a July day. Though, the mesas and surrounding country were beautiful! The hike was very easy and had a nice big monument too. For me, State HP #23!!
