Idaho's Tallest  Sucess!

Climbed Borah on back-to-back days. Always a fun and challenging grind to the top. Also climbed the peak in August of 1999.

Route Climbed: Standard Route

A fun, easy climb and practically snowless, making the exit from Chicken-out Ridge very easy and not scary at all.

Route Climbed: Southwest- run Date Climbed: August 28, 1998  Sucess!

One of my first mountain runs- I was able to keep a run for about 75% of the time. It was steep, but direct and fairly quick. There was a skiff of snow above Chicken Out and I was back to the car in 3 hrs 45 minutes

Climbed Borah on our way back to Missoula, MT from the Wind River Range. The day began overcast and smoky from nearby wildfires, but by the time we reached the summit had cleared considerably.

My 8th trip to the summit of Borah. It was a little chilly on top, but a great day!

First state highpoint for me and an awesome hike. Only saw 2 other people up there the whole day and perfect weather.

I'd climbed it in 1992 but went back with my brother so he could claim it as a highpoint. Beautiful day. 15 folks on the mountain including 9 on top. Didn't realize exactly where Chicken Out Ridge was until we got off it. No big deal. Semi-exposed 3rd class. This one gets old as you're getting down off it - that i remember from '92.

6 hours to summit after a long drive from Seattle the day before. Had a little trouble acclimating. Love this area.

I couldn't have asked for better weather, in fact it was perfect. Borah sits in a truly a beautiful setting and I found myself enjoying the views all day. The trail wastes no time in getting its elevation and chicken out ridge was kinda fun. Of course, I had the advantage of meeting "Bob" from Boise who had been up it before and knew the route up chicken out so I didn't have any guessing on the right way to go. He also took two novices under his wing and helped them not chicken out on chicken out ridge. (both grandmothers who just needed a coach).

Outstanding views from the summit and I found the worst part to be the part where the trail goes straight down through the trees for over two thousand feet. My trekking poles saved my butt many many times. Awesome mountain. I did Hyndman the previous week and felt Borah to be tougher.

My first of 3 summit trips prior to age 20 (none since though). Gotta get back... Here’s a trip-report and some photos.

I drove down from Washington through Challis and Grand View Canyon on US 93 spotting this from the SP photos. After camping out, I started at 5:00 a.m. reaching 11,200 feet as it started to storm in the valley. I found hiking sticks to be quite useful on this mountain especially on the way down.

Joined Steve W. on his quest to reach the Idaho state high point. As a hiker he wanted somebody with climbing experience along but there was hardly any climbing. I wish the Chicken-out ridge was longer to make things more interesting. It is mostly a hike and there is hardly any snow left. Broke my altitude record on this one.

Fun long climb. I started at 5:00 and summited at 11:00. decent exposeure but I still thought that chicken out ridge was not as bad as what I had herd. all and all it made for a long butt kicking day. also my first Idaho 12er. one down eight to go.

What a great trip! It was my first time and I had a blast. We started early and made the summit in three hours forty five minutes. Great hike highly recommended

Route Climbed: standard route Date Climbed: June 23, 2005  Sucess!

This was probably the most exhilirating climb I have done so far. The late spring snows turned this into a long, sketchy traverse that almost took us 9 hrs to summit! An ice axe is critical with any hint of snow on COR. All easy routes below the ridge are wiped out when snow is present.

Route Climbed: Southwest Ridge Date Climbed: July 21, 1997  Sucess!

We started early in the morning. The trail quickly gained elevation and by sunrise we were on the ridgetop. Chicken-out-ridge didn't seem that bad to me. We had the summit to ourselves.

Route Climbed: Standard South West ridge Date Climbed: Last time was August 04  Sucess!

Climbed this peak 4 times. It is very crowded. Too many people from Boise are getting into this "mountain climbing" thing. Oh well.

Route Climbed: Direct Southern Route Date Climbed: July 1986  Sucess!

Twelve out of thirteen attempts to the summit, all climbed between July '86 and June '89. All kinds of weather conditions, almost always windy. Didn't know about "Chicken out ridge" until I'd made the summit a half dozen time, still don't understand what the big deal is with that. P.S. Carry plenty of water, none along ascent route.
