The Cabane de Tracuit (SAC) or Tracuit Hut is a beautiful alpine hut high above the Zinal valley, Switzerland, situated in the Pennine Alps at 3256 m and precisely near the Col de Tracuit, between Les Diablons and the Tête de Milon. From the shelter it is possible to carry out different ascents and crossings. The most frequented ascent departing from the Cabane de Tracuit is the Bishorn Normal route, one of the easiest 4000s in the Alps.
The approach to the hut is rather long, but absolutely not to be missed. When you will reach the hut you wull forget all the efforts because the view is truly wonderful view to Bishorn, Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Obergabelhorn, Dent Blanche and Besso.
The hut is treated from end of March till middle of May and from beginning of July till middle of September. In the rest of the year you have the possibility to rest in the winter room. As the hut is rather frequented also by the hikers, the reservation is absolutely recommended.
Start at the centre of Zinal or from the small parking place behind the Hotel des Bouquetins. Follow the signpost to the Cabane de Tracuit, getting to a parking lot a bit out of the village, where it starts the trail (signpost Cabane de Tracuit). The path is well marked with red and white signs. After a starting part inside the forest, the trail called du Roc de la Vache becomes more steep and twisty, getting the mountain pasture Combautanna (2578 m). After ascending greendlands you reach boulderfields heading to the Col de Tracuit. In about 4 hours the trail leads us to the base of an easy and small rocky gully equipped with a fixed rope. Just above, in a few minutes, you will get the Cabane de Tracuit (3256 m) situated on the pass between the Turtmannan and Anniviers valleys..

The first refuge was inaugurated in 1929, Joseph Baumgartner and his sons Maurice, Pierre and André were the main donors and Edouard Vianin was the first guardian. After a first expansion in the years 1937 and 1938 with a notable increase of the capacity, the shelter was again widened in 1968 and in 1980. In the year 2013 it was completely rebuilt and the current guardian is Anne-Lise Bourgeois.
