My first peak in the US
I started my hike from the last bus stop at East Lake Mead Boulevard, near the east end of Las Vegas. I started my hike at noon. The temperature was 30 C / 85 F. No shadow. No other hikers. 11 km walking, 800 m elevation gain. It was quite exhausting due to the hot conditions, but still I enjoyed it a lot

quick jaunt
Took me about ninety eight minutes to climb to the summit, although I sat down a few times on the first hill to see if people stopping at the parking lot were actually hikers or just casing cars. I’ve never seen a parking lot before with so much broken window glass and the entire base of the mountain is a bullet swept wasteland of shattered glass and shot up targets. The top however was almost completely trash free and had spectacular views of Vegas to the west. Mixed bag.

Just had to do it
Temps weren't bad but the chilly wind up top kept my summit time to a minimum. Little-marred views to the east (unlike Black Mountain), but the city itself was dulled by a weak sun. Man, what a steep road.

Just Looking For A Drone
Sent a drone out on an automated mission to catch the Las Vegas westward reveal at the second saddle and wound up crashing into the first saddle. Someone had to get it. For an unseasoned climber...3 minutes to lose the drone, 3 hours to recover. Lucky I climbed bleachers at the local high school stadium between May 1 and August 31 the summer before. Only aches and pains I had were my ankles from giving with the loose rocks.

Frenchman
Brought trail running shoes thinking I could run it. Turns out, not so much. That road is incredibly steep.

Before winter is over
I had to make my way up this peak. With highs in the low 70's reported for later in the week, it was time to make it up this mountain. Hiked with Maddie, before work. It is a steep road, and I'm glad I brought a trekking pole!

All 4 summits
This was part of a month long solo peakbagging trip in which I hiked every day and got 70 peaks in 30 days. I hiked the north road and bagged all 4 peaks before driving over to do Mount Wilson in Arizona later that day.
For numerous photos and brief route descriptions see the trip report.

On an overcast day. Really impressed by the steepness of the road. This is no stroll.

Antenna Summit
A great perch above the city. Communications antennas are all over both summits but they do not mar the excellent west-east views. Such a steep access road/trail.

Better than expected
First time was via the unimpressive jeep trail from the broken glass-desecrated parking area off Lake Mead Blvd. Second time was directly up from the Mormon temple: fantastic! Some fun class 3 sections and beautiful rock.

Not much of a mountain
An afternoon hike. Never again, though. The views of Lake Mead was OK, but the other side was just mucky Las Vegas.

Great views, steep road
Had this one on my list for awhile. Steepest dirt road I've ever seen. Tough uphill, but not long, and the views are great.

Nice midday hike
Nice quick up-and-down the road in about 2 hours -- had to hustle since a massive storm swept over downtown Vegas as I was approaching the summit. Way too much trash up there; good views, though, and a very different kind of mountain than I am accustomed to hiking.

Lung and calf buster. Great night hike, started from parking area and went back the same way.

Summit Road grunt
Finally got around to hiking Frenchman, which is just a few miles from my parents' home in Henderson. Followed the road because I was very curious to see just how steep that road was! Hike itself was easy, a good workout, with clouds and a cool wind. Visited both summits, although I chose not to break the law and shimmy inside the northern fence. Views are spectacular.

That's a tough road!
Had a couple hours to kill while waiting for my wife to fly into Vegas. The 'access' road is probably the steepest lose gravel path ever called a road... A real ankle twister if you are not careful! But the view of Vegas at dusk is impressive...
