via Flattop  Sucess!

Left miserable front range weather behind to find the Continental Divide drier and warmer, high above the up-sloping weather pattern. The views of the Divide with clouds filling the valleys below was pretty neat.

Standard Route-Bear Lake TH  Sucess!

After walking over Flattop Mt. I headed up and over Hallett Peak. It looks so much different from this side and has very little of the "peak" like qualities you see from Bear Lake.

Cold  Sucess!

It was so cold when we got above timberline that half of our party had to throw in the towel. I'm sure the views were great but I was to busy hiding behind the summit wind block.

Unnamed and Classic  Sucess!

Enjoyed a superb, unnamed route with DB, Aaron and Ram. Ram pieced the route together some 15 years ago and displayed it to us as a top-quality, highly memorable and altogether classic class 4-5 scramble. Great, great, great stuff. Then on to Otis.

Fog on the Divide  Sucess!

I'll have to do this hike again as the fog coming over the Divide never really let up. We got a predawn start and views of the eclipse were crystal clear, but by the time we got to Flattop the fog was rolling over the Divide. We dropped several hundred feet and took shelter for over an hour. It cleared up some so we headed for Hallet but by the time we got to the summit the fog was thick again. I can only imagine how great the view is on a clear day.

Tyndall Gully  Sucess!

Climbed left side of Tyndall Glacier to the left of the rock rib. Nice route and good summit. I liked being able to see most of the rest of the peaks in the area from the summit.

I had wanted this one for a while. As it turned out, it became the crown on a great day in the mountains!

Peak to self  Sucess!

Not often you get one alone. But with 30 mph sustained winds and a palpable lack of summertime throngs around Bear Lake, this was it! One of my favorite views so far.

Great hike  Sucess!

Took the trail from Bear Lake via Flattop to Hallett, great views and only 5 people on top, did this on a repeat quest when I got turned around on Flattop last time due to weather.

don't miss it!  Sucess!

This is a straightforward add-on to a hike up Flattop. The views are *much* better on Hallett -- don't miss it!
