Re: Mera shotThanks for the comments, guys.
No, not digital. Software nerd that I am, I still have not leapt into digital photography.
It was Fuji, either Sensia or Provia 100. They are basically the same film. The camera was a Canon Rebel XS with the lousy Canon 28-80 zoom (since replaced with the newer and better 24-85).
This was scanned by a pro lab onto a Kodak Photo CD prior to my purchasing an HP PhotoSmart S20 Film Scanner. I don't think my scanner does quite the same job with the colors.
Cheers,

Re: Mera shotStill haven't gotten into digital either. I have about 20 rolls of Sensia and 5 rolls of Provia sitting in my fridge right now (along with a lot of Kodak). Good to see that it should give some good results, as I will be taking a 1 month trip travelling around the U.S. I've only used Velvia by Fuji, and was always quite pleased with it.
My scanner at home SUCKS. Makes photos look about 10 times worse than they actually are. However, I'd rather buy gear than another scanner at this point in time :).

Re: Mera shotI was climbing this weekend (Dead Dog Couloir on Torrey's Peak) and the guy I was with mentioned Adobe Photoshop Elements as a great, easy to use tool to enhance scanned images.
Know anything about it? I'd be interested in checking it out...

Re: Mera shotI have a basic adobe photoshop and I agree...I dont know the half of how to use it , but even for a computer illiterate as myself it is very easy to touch up scaned photos. I also use it to change formats from bmp or tiff or whatever to jpg and to shrink files, crop etc. You can get pretty sophisticated even with a simple version of it like mine. You can do an auto touchup or go in manually to adjust contrast, hues and brightness and contrast.

Re: Mera shotActually, Provia 100F is a significantly better film than Sensia, with a very fine grain that rivals Kodachrome 64. The color saturation is better (lower) for our preferred subject matter than Velvia's is, IMHO. Even with my "consumer" film scanner ( an older Minolta Dimâge Scan Dual) at 3504x2336 PPI, I can often see the grain with Sensia, but generally not with Provia. I would suggest giving Provia 100F a try - I just ordered 20 rolls of 36 for $85.80 from B&H Photo - search for "fuji provia 100f" in the "film" category. If anyone knows of a cheaper place with good reliable service, please advise!! :-)
Awesome shot, BTW!!

Re: Mera shotBob,
Thanks for your information. I've heard good things about Provia 'F', but have not tried it yet. I think this photo was shot was before they added the 'F'. I'll definitely give it a try now.
Have you used Fuji Astia? I shot a roll in town and forest, but not up high, and it seems to have excellent exposure latitude. This may be nice in the harsh high altitude lighting conditions, possibly better shadow detail?
I also use B&H and am pleased with them.
Thanks again,

your filmBeautiful shot!! Wow! I was given Velvia and never got around to using it before it expired. Im using Kodak VC now... colors really seem to snap... but I think I better shoot some Velvia or Sensia pretty soon too. Maybe Fuji will get me back! lol

Re: your filmThanks for your comments.
I might also mention I had a polarizing filter, and this time was careful to back off a bit, so that the sky didn't turn too black. It is tending towards that in the upper left.
Maybe I should have removed the polarizer all together? This was a fast moving scene and I was working on composition, got off 3-4 shots before the clouds changed completely, and then minutes later they were gone.
