First Solo climb  Sucess!

I climbed Adams for my first solo climb. I got my camp set up at the lunch counter, and headed for the summit at about 2 the following morning. I did not encounter any major problems, got to the summit and kicked it for a bit, taking in the view. Stayed at the lunch counter for two more nights... I had a family of Mt. Goats that frequented my camp area. Headed back down. Pretty straightforward but rewarding trip! I'd like to try a different route than the standard south route...

First Glaciated Peak  Sucess!

First glaciated peak!!! Did this one in 2 days with friends from my scout troop. Hiked in all of our stuff up to lunch counter where we spent the night. Then woke up to lightning storms at 4 am so we didn't get climbing until around 9. Lightning struck 100 yards from my tent. We then dashed up to the summit, took some pictures and then had a long hike down. Because of our late start, we didn't get down until around 6 or 7.

Dog Route  Sucess!

Horrible, horrible approach road for a Honda hatchback. Otherwise this route is a walk.

Mt Adams  Sucess!

Long trek with two nights on the mountain with Todd James. Camped at the lunchbox. More taxing than I thought it'd be.

Adams 2011  Sucess!

Took my friend up the south spur for his first summit. Camped at Lunch Counter. It was beautiful but then there was a cloud on top. We went up anyway and it was still fun. Here's a six minute video with some fun music and scenery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afXb9SSwNi8&feature=related

spacey solo climb.  Sucess!

Great one day hike. Left the parking lot at 2:50 am, got to summit around 8:30 and hung out because it was so nice up there. Back to the car about 1:20 pm.

Windy...

Had a wonderful time climbing Adams. Due to high winds we only made it the false summit at 11,700 ft. Sooo close! Which just makes me that much more excited for the next trip up!!

Great place  Sucess!

The entire area around Adams is a great wilderness, enjoyable to visit and explore. Have summitted a couple of times, and recently skied the circumference, staying between about 7000 to 9000 feet. Perfect, relatively easy terrain, does not require high-end technical skiing skills. The big negative: The Yakima tribe allows snowmobiling on their side, and those smelly noise monsters are impressive climbers, they go everywhere! They even trespass out of the reservation into the wilderness area, especially on the north side.

Great Glissading  Sucess!

One of the longest glissades I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy. Great day and a solid climb.

Lots of snow  Sucess!

Backpacked into Lunch Counter at about 9200 feet. Built camp and then headed up to the summit at around 1pm. Came back down and spent the night before heading back down to my car the the following morning. I put crampons on at about 8000 or so feet and was in them all the way to the summit. Was able to glissade the 2000 feet from Pikes Peak to Lunch Counter. Snow line starts at about 7400 feet or so. Spent almost 11 hours total time on the ascent and descent. Not counting time at base camp.

Gorgeous Northern Approach  Sucess!

A great approach on the Killen Creek Trail up to ~7400 feet, where we made camp in one of several nice shelters that previous climbers had built. We took off at midnight and had the summit to ourselves before the hordes came up the south side. Beautiful climb up the north ridge.

Great Weather  Sucess!

My buddy SouthernYokel and I camped at 9,500' on the snow just above lunch counter. Great level spot away from the crowds... Left camp early on the 27th and summited around 7am. First group of the day. Enjoyed the views for about an hour with NO wind before the Hordes of people made the march from Pikers. When we saw a line of 20 heading our way, it was a sign to make our early descent on an icy glissade back to camp.

Amateur Hour  Sucess!

Great climb. My 3 person team was the 2nd group to summit at 6am. The climb down was filled with people in jeans and sweatpants and just general mountain foolishness. I will never do the South Spur on a weekend again. Too many yahoos.

Lost Black Diamond Axe

I found an leashless black diamond ice axe on the trail.
Contact me to get it back, I live in PDX.

There is much snow on the mountain at this point.
Bring all you gear and something to slide on if you want.
You can slide far past lunch counter on your way home,
keep walking down the snow and you'll hit a couple more chutes.

20th - 21st - Great Weather  Sucess!

Stayed the night up on lunch counter and there were a lot of people, but still plenty of camp sites. A small stream was running through part of LC and most were using it to refill their water. Hit the summit at 9:25 am on the 21st. Snow was very hard until around 11am when I left the summit.

South Spur route  Sucess!

My climbing buddy and I finally both had a free weekend, and the weather was cooperating. Climbed up and camped just below Lunch Counter on Saturday, went to the summit on Sunday. Marine front had us a little worried, but all of the clouds cleared around 11am. Perfect summit!

Fun Day with Friends  Sucess!

Went up a few weeks ago to Lunch Counter with a big group of friends. We found a great spot to camp about halfway through the Lunch Counter. The next morning, we got an alpine start and summited in a lenticular cloud on an otherwise clear day. Oh well... A good time was had by all, especially on the descent ;)
